The Zonta Club of Prince William County sponsors a variety of service projects that work for the advancement of women in the community. These projects include:
- Turning Points Battered Women’s Shelter
- ACTS
- The B.A.R.N. project in Bristow
- Scholarships
- Good Shepard Housing Projects
- Literacy Volunteers of America – Prince William
The Oasis Refugee Collection, one of the club’s most recent projects dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives, involves developing care packages for war refugees living in Austria.
The care packages will include gloves, hats, scarves, socks, plastic shower shoes, playing cards, small folding umbrellas, makeup, pens, pencils, paper, crayons and coloring books. These items that are needed most by displaced persons and that can pass through customs without problems. Zonta members have been knitting scarves and hats so the care packages will have a personal touch.
To contribute to the effort to combat breast cancer, the club has undertaken two initiatives:
- Tell-A-Friend Breast Cancer Program – Each member will talk to five to ten women during a one month period and encourage them to obtain their annual mammogram.
- Mammograms for Underprivileged Women – Each member visit the breast cancer, www.thebreastcancersite.com daily to click a the button that will provide funds for mammograms for women in need.
